Alma graduated with a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health from Murray State University’s nationally ranked ASAC/ABET accredited program.

Alma’s professional safety career began during their undergraduate studies in 2008 when they was hired as a Safety Intern for Rosendin Electrical Contractors, one of the largest electrical contractors in the United States, to assist with the completion of a T-Mobile data center construction project in Wenachee, WA. Post graduation, they accepted a position as a Safety Specialist with Rosendin Electric. In their role as Safety Specialist, Alma oversaw the safety operations for union electricians working inside Intel Corporation’s fabrication laboratories in Chandler, AZ. Within a short time, Alma was promoted to Division Safety Manager in San Francisco, CA where they was responsible for the safety and health programs for over 200 union electricians across nine constructions projects- which included hospitals, green field high rise condominiums, and renovations of historic buildings.

In 2014, after five years in the construction industry, Alma went on to work for the City of Pasadena’s Water and Power Department where they managed the safety and health program for the 350+ employee department. During their years as a public servant, they also served as chair for the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) Safety Sub-working Committee for two consecutive years.

Alma founded the Modern Safety Institute in 2019 with the purpose of supporting organizations in being ethically positive employers through health and safety compliance and positive labor relations. In 2024, they sunset offering consulting services to pursue other passions.
